RRC Open Space:
Red Rock Canyon Open Space, a 978-acre Colorado Springs city
park, is one of the Pikes Peak region’s most popular rock climbing
areas. The 100-foot-high sandstone cliffs that line Red Rock
Canyon offer over 90 climbing routes similar to those in the
Garden of the Gods just to the north.
Red Rock Canyon’s routes, mostly sport climbs equipped with
permanent protection bolts and anchors, come in a wide variety of
grades. The majority of the routes are easy and moderate in
difficulty, making it an ideal area for beginner and novice climbers
to learn the basics of climbing movement as well as more
advanced techniques including belaying and rappelling. All the
climbing routes end at permanent bolt
anchors that are well below the cliff-top,
protecting cliff-top environments and
keeping rocks from being knocked onto
hikers and climbers below.
Red Rock Canyon offers a great outdoor
rock climbing experience, with lots of
peace and quiet, grazing deer and other
wildlife, fabulous scenery, and the
opportunity to climb lots of routes.
